    Week Four, July 15- July 19

 Wednesday (July 17): Decision Making and Evaluates Alternatives

   
Objectives:

  • Reach consensus on assessment expectations
  • Introduce databases for toxic chemicals and US Census
  • Demonstrate how decision making uses diverse datasets and evaluates alternatives

Schedule:

8 am Clarify concerns on lab reporting and outline final project expectations. Plankton samples revisited,  discussion of NO3 and PO4 data. Format for final project paper: model from journals

9 am Directed laboratory (no report) on how to access and use data on toxic chemicals by geographic area, and comparison to US Census 2000 [TOXIC SUBSTANCE DATA worksheet and resource list]

10 am COMBINING DATA FOR A COASTAL QUESTION (handout)
           Introduce problem of development of a public swimming area on South Bass
           Introduce decision making model: PrOACT
           Introduce survey development techniques (samples from USEPA data and OSG)

12:45pm  Boat to South Bass Island to look at swimming sites and collect social data at State Park beach, b   Monument, and Dress property

3 pm Boat back to Gibraltar, complete the decision activity. 
        Applications to final projects
